Last full day today. Boo. Mostly travel and a really great day culminating in a visit to my favourite place on earth (out of the limited amount of earth I have visited). Unedited diary entry from that day:

Saturday 1st February 2020 – KOTOR (MONTENEGRO) to DUBROVNIK (CROATIA)

Up by 10. Got ready and decided to see how far up the fort we could climb. Got beyond the cathedral.

View from the part of the fort in Kotor Old Town. Spectacular.

Climbed back down to meet one of the ladies from yesterday to show us the first, large apt above the square in the old town again. Seemed much nicer today and less daunting. Had a good look around, filmed etc.

We then got some postcards and got lost getting back to our apt. Found it, found the car and discovered that the sat nav wouldn’t even find Croatia! Started driving then Vikki noticed that an SD card was poking out…of course! Popped that back in and all was right with the world again.

Driving around Kotor Bay we were met by some stunning sights.

We were making good time until we reached the border as the Border Police decided they wanted to look in all of our luggage for contraband. I think he was disappointed when he found none. Humourless bastard, too.

Border is only 20 mins from Cavtat though so we met the estate agent and viewed the €130k property there. Cheap for Cavtat with a nice large balcony. There is a planning thing that would need to be sorted before we could rent. Bit confused. Women will find more info.

Drove around Cavtat for a bit then drove to the room for tonight which is a lovely rustic place owned by a clearly OCD chap with fastidious taste. Very nice. Sat on the balcony watching the sun set. Beautiful.

Beautiful sunset from the apartment we stayed in in the rural part of Dubrovnik.

Drove into Dubrovnik so I could get a like-for-like Kotor vs. Dubrovnik. There is no competition – Dubrovnik all the way. Not that I know what that means. I think V is leaning toward Ciovo – and she is quite right. It’s only 1/2hr from Split/Trogir, but it is that bit further north so not quite as warm. Still be hot, though, I’m sure.

Dubrovnik Old Town. You will rarely see it this quiet. Well, pandemic aside!

Started heading back, finding the supermarket I wish we’d found on Day 1. I got salmon, prawns so was dead happy. Got back, cooked food then ate watching a Ted Bundy thing. Booked in online and sorted all our luggage etc.

Dubrovnik Old Town marina. I think part of the reason I love it so much is that it reminds me of Castle Cornet, St Peter Port, Guernsey (Channel Islands, UK), a place I visited a lot as a kid.
